The Weather Network is a Leader in Public Alerting

For years The Weather Network has distributed Environment Canada weather warnings as well as other public safety information such as air quality, road condition reports.

Based on our experience and expertise, Pelmorex proposed to the CRTC to undertake the collection and distribution of emergency messages to all broadcasters across Canada. What this means is that TV and Radio stations as well as cable and satelite distributors will be able to display emergency message from any authorized government agency. Pelmorex proposed to provide this service at no additional cost to our viewers or government agencies and broadcasters who use the alerting service. Following a public hearing in the spring of 2009,Pelmorex established the National Alert Aggregation & Dissemination System [NAAD System], assisted by a Governance Council of public & private stakeholders, in accordance with CRTC Broadcasting Order 2009-340.

Today, Pelmorex’s NAAD System is fully operational with the capability to receive public safety messages from any authorized government agency in Canada and to distribute them to broadcasters anywhere in Canada. This initiative can only be maintained if the CRTC renews our broadcasting licence and extends the requirement that The Weather Network remain part of the basic cable or satellite service that you receive.
